Obafemi is a graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, whose interests span from Private and Public International Law to Comparative Literature and Analytical Research Models.
His undergraduate thesis appraised the modern application of the International Law concept of Domicile and earned him a distinction under the supervision of Professor J.O.A Akintayo. His desire to explore the workings of Public and Customary International Law led to his participation as a delegate in a handful of Model United Nations, with especial commendations from the International Model United Nations, the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana.
In his penultimate undergraduate year, he explored his interests in International Human Rights and Disability Law through a WillFran-Consulting-sponsored paper addressing the gaps between Nigeria’s ideal domestic social policy and the reality of its implementation, in what reviewers from the World Institute on Disability deemed a “well-developed scholarly piece encouraging the active implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) beyond its ratification, in an attempt to bring Nigeria into compliance with this International Law.”
His curiosity and drive foster a budding interest in Corporate and General Litigation, Financing, Election Petition, Alternate Dispute Resolution and Advocacy. The imagination, attentiveness and craft his legal drafting benefits from stem from his works of creative writing. His creative works have been recognised and lauded by the Berlin Writing Prize, the Alpine Fellowship Prize and the Public Space Writing Fellowship. In 2022 and 2023, he was selected as a Creative Writing Fellow at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study, University of Johannesburg.
